A recent lung cancer research project, funded by Cancer Research UK has found that the recurrence of cancer could be detected up to a year before any other method currently available to medicine. In this exciting study, the UK research team examined blood for signs of cancer that were impossible to see on X-ray or CT scans, which clearly points to the possibility of doctors being able to increase the likelihood of cure by dealing with tumours much earlier, potentially for all types of the disease.
The project team are also looking at ideas for drugs after discovering how rampant cancer development is fuelled by unstable DNA.
The results can be viewed in the journal of Nature and a full BBC article can be found here
