Flu and Colds are the most common cause of absence

Exclusive research from Employee Benefits magazine has revealed that minor ailments, flu and colds have consistently been the most common cause of sickness absence for UK  organisations over the last 12 months.

Of over 375 HR and benefits professionals who were questioned, 85% cited these symptoms as the most common cause for absence. Musculoskeletal ailments remain in second place, cited by 49%, followed by personal mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety.

All three of these issues have risen up employers’ agendas over the years, as has the need for an effective health and wellbeing programme as the correlation between healthy staff and increased business performance is becoming more and more clear for organisations in the UK.  Use our interactive sickness absence calculator to measure the cost to your business through ill health!
