Our Healthy Blog

Week Three (w/c 16 Jan 2012)

It goes to prove the well known fact that being unhealthy means you take longer to get better from illness. After nearly 8 days of a bad chest, I’ve finally been able to start running again. Decided to run to swimming to meet the family there and did some quality ‘thinking’ on the way. I use running as a good opportunity to clear things in my head but it also helps to forget about my struggling lungs!! Completely forgot that the last ¼ mile was up hill, with the final 400metres extremely steep! Felt great afterwards, although I’m sure I’ll ache in the morning!

Core work is causing far more aches and pains and within the next 1-2 weeks I’ll be starting on some weights in the gym to help with muscular tone and endurance (at rest, muscle burns more calories than fat so it’s a great way to aid the training programme). My next Health Check is beginning of February (we wouldn’t usually suggest monthly health checks but for the purpose of this programme it’s important to gauge improvements). so whilst I’ve only really done a couple of weeks so far, it will be interesting to see if there has been any changes.

Motivation levels are starting to increase however I recognise that if I do too much too soon, then it could all go pear-shaped (or I’ll increase my risk of illness/injury!). So it’s generally getting easier and I’m going to start running to work at least once a week (it’s about 2miles which will be a huge motivator as I when I start work, my exercise for the day will be done!). Saying that I’m not a morning person so we’ll see how this goes.

Disclaimer: OK, we shouldn't really need to put this, but our legal eagles have advised us to! Please don't copy any of the activities within this training log. Wayne has been assessed before he starts the programme to ensure it is safe to start exercising and will be using some quite challenging (yet time saving!) ways to improve his fitness level over the three months. We always strongly advise that you seek advice from a health professional before starting a health/fitness programme.
